Jean-Pierre Canihac in 1976 he founded the early music ensemble of Toulouse Les Sacqueboutiers. He plays the cornet à bouquin as a soloist, within the Sacqueboutiers and instrumental ensembles specialized in the interpretation of ancient music. His deep knowledge of this literature and the refinement of his interpretation make him a reference musician of early music.

He appears as a soloist in important international ensembles and under the direction of the most prestigious conductors: Michel Corboz, Philippe Herreweghe, Ton Koopman, Jordi Savall (Hesperion XXI), William Christie (Les Arts Florissants), Emmanuelle Haïm (Le Concert d'Astrée) , Jean-Claude Malgoire (La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy), Paul McCreesh (Gabrieli Consort), Richard Cheetham (Renaissance Orchestra), Lorenz Duftschmidt (Harmonico Tributo), René Clemencic (Clemencic Consort), Andrew Parrott (London Tavener Choir ), Sigiswald Kuijken (The Little Band), Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Vienna Concentus Musicus).
