Greetings, MetalHeads,
??Do you play popular music in charangas or Street Band ??, this type of music is very demanding especially on the lip, long hours playing, walking, even dancing…
And the question I get asked the most is: How can I have more endurance? Since my lip gets tired very easily.
!!!!! Without further ado, let's start !!!!!!
If you want to have more endurance, the first thing you should look for is to have more comfort on the lip.
For that, you have to choose a rim shape that gives you more contact surface and does not punish your lip so much.
Two rim shapes that can tire your lip more.
Imagine that this rectangle is the lip.
And this is a rounded rim, the central part is where this type of rim has the maximum pressure on the lip and you will have a quite pronounced contact point, which when playing while walking always digs into the same point and can be a cause of fatigue.
Here I have another rim shape with a pronounced, sharp inner bite, the maximum pressure of the rim on the lip is also at a very specific point in this case on the inside of the rim and it does not distribute the contact surface well over the lip, in some way the same thing happens as with the rounded rim that ends up fatiguing the lip a lot.
That is why I think the best option is to opt for rims with a more semi-flat shape.
If we make this rim rounded, flatter, we increase the contact surface and the pressure of the rim is better distributed over the lip and thus we will increase endurance since WE DO NOT punish the lip in a very small point, as happens with rounded rims or with the sharp interior.
In summary:
Increasing the contact surface with a semi-flat rim that better distributes the pressure on the lip can be a good option to have more lip endurance when we have to play this type of music, which requires movement.
But there are other factors that can also influence lip fatigue..
For example, if you use an inner rim diameter, a cup or a throat that is too large, you will have to make more effort when playing. And even if the rim is semi-flat, if the mouthpiece is too large, you will get tired anyway because the lip has to work much harder to get the best result.
So, this is another detail you should check.

Greetings and lots of music.
