4. Art as medicine for life

Today I was able to see in person the sculpture that the artist and sculptor Jaume Plensa donated to the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona. It is the work “Ànima” and when you look at it, it seems magical…
The outline, the environment, the volume, the material… the weather, the people passing in front, the people passing behind, the light… make every second observing it different.
This sculpture is made with letters from 8 different alphabets and simulates a person who is sitting. On the outside it has a lot of information, but inside it is empty.
While I was observing it, it seemed to me a good metaphor for this year 2020. With the pandemic, I think we have all emptied ourselves a bit.
Personally, during all this time, I have undertaken new projects, developed many ideas… but inside I feel and find myself empty, unable to access live culture, art exhibitions, without meetings with friends or family…
This sculpture, and art in general, make us rethink many aspects of our lives. That's why it's so important that the music doesn't stop!
