13. ¿Quién prueba mis boquillas?

13. Who tests my mouthpieces?

Who tries my mouthpieces?

Recently, a musician asked me an interesting question that made me reflect: he asked me.

“Which musician tries the mouthpieces I make, to know if they work well?”

The question seems simple, but it hides a very common misunderstanding: that a good musician tries a mouthpiece and, if it works well for him/her, it will work for anyone, or that soloist models sold as “magical” will work the same for everyone.

The reality is that the mouthpiece is much more like a pair of custom-made shoes.

With standard shoes, you can more or less get the right size, but if your foot has a special shape, wider, narrower, with a high arch or some particularity, a mass-produced shoe will never fit perfectly. It will cause chafing, tire you when walking, or not let you move freely.

On the other hand, when you go to a craftsman shoemaker, he first studies your foot, measures, observes how you step, and from there, makes a shoe that fits only you.

No one can try that shoe for you, because it is made to your exact shape.

The mouthpiece works the same way.

What helps one musician in the high register doesn't work at all for another. What gives comfort to one may reduce resistance for another. The diameter, the shape of the rim, the depth of the cup... every detail only makes sense if it adapts to your way of playing, blowing air, the music you play……

That's why, in my workshop, there are no “reference” mouthpieces tested by other musicians.

When you come to my CUSTOM Studio, it's not about trying standard models, but about starting a journey towards your own sound: I listen to how you play, understand what you need, and from there, I manufacture a mouthpiece that fits only you.

👉 If you're ready to take that step and start your journey, make an appointment with me and we'll talk.
